Robert Clayton undertook his undergraduate and post-graduate training in Edinburgh, followed by specialist fellowships in Glasgow and Toronto. In 2010 he took up a post as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a major subspecialist interest in foot and ankle surgery in Fife, South East Scotland. He now has a highly specialized elective and trauma foot and ankle practice. He joined the Scientific Committee of BOFAS in 2014 and has served on the BOFAS council since 2017. He is currently Media & Communications Director of the British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (BOFAS).

He is a regular speaker at national and international specialist foot and ankle meetings, and he has convened and served on faculty for many educational events through BOFAS and other organizations. Mr Clayton is one of the UK’s leading foot and ankle surgeons. He has a lead role in training the next generation of foot and ankle specialists, running training courses with BOFAS and in Scotland with Foot and Ankle Scotland. He has taken a leading role in developing foot and ankle surgical services in Scotland and across the United Kingdom. He organized and taught on specialist aspects of foot and ankle surgery for trainee surgeons and other health professionals.
